Renewal emails from ICANN: What to do
Have you received an email from ICANN about your domain expiration? Don't panic! ICANN sends these messages to .com domain holders as a reminder. But what exactly do these emails mean and what should you do? We'll explain it to you here.
How do you recognize an ICANN renewal email?
ICANN sends these emails as part of the Expired Registration Recovery Policy (ERRP). The emails often have the subject line: ICANN ERRP notification for domain [yourdomain.com]. It contains information about the expiration date of your domain registration and what you need to do to renew your domain. The content looks something like this:
Example:
Dear XXXX,
This notification is a reminder about the upcoming expiration date of your domain registration for xxxxxxxxxxx.com, as prescribed in the ICANN Expired Registration Recovery Policy (http://www.icann.org/en/resources/registrars/consensus-policies/errp).
According to our records, the domain is currently registered to:
2024-12-22 11:09:49
Your domain registration can be renewed according to your agreement with your service provider. If you want to renew your domain registration, visit your service provider's website for more information and make sure that the payment for the renewal is made on time. Depending on your agreement with your service provider, the renewal may also be automatic.
Kind regards,
LinQhost
