Migrate Email with ImapSync

When moving your website to LinQhost, transferring the website files and databases is not a problem. When it comes to your e-mail, this becomes a bit more difficult. Here is a step-by-step plan to also migrate your e-mail via imap to your new mail environment at LinQhost. Carrying out this step-by-step plan is entirely at your own risk.

What information do you need?

To transfer the email you will need the following information (from the old and new location):
  1. The IP address of the old and new mail server. (Note: the old mail server must support IMAP!)
  2. Usernames (usually this is the full email address) for retrieving your email
  3. Passwords
You can transfer your email using the ImapSync program.
ImapSync can be downloaded from the following URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/rximapmail/

Transfer Email with ImapSync

Here are the steps to migrate your email.

Step 1: Install and configure ImapSync
Once ImapSync is installed, go to the program folder (“C:\Program Files\Radix\ImapSync”). In this folder is the file ImapSync.exe.config that needs to be modified. Open this file in notepad and change the IP addresses at SourceHost (source location) and DestHost (destination location). Then save the changes:



Step 2: Synchronize Email
Start the program ImapSync.exe and fill in the required data and click Next:



Select the folders to be synchronized and click Next:



The email is now being synchronized. Depending on the amount of emails, this may take some time.



Your email has now been transferred to the new location.
