As of September 1, 2014, it is mandatory to verify the email address of the owner of a domain name. This is a new rule from
ICANN , the organization responsible for domain name management. It is therefore important that the specified email address is valid and active.
Which domain names does this apply to?
This obligation applies mainly to domain extensions such as:
- .com
- .org
- .just
- New gTLDs (such as .shop, .online, .app, etc.)
All new domain names that are issued fall under these rules. For existing domains, the verification requirement only applies if there are changes in the email address.
How does email verification work?
When registering a domain name, you will receive an email from our registrar with the request to confirm your email address. You can do this easily by clicking on the link in the email. You have 14 days to do this, after 7 days you will receive a reminder.
Please note: If you do not confirm your email address within 14 days, your domain name will be deactivated. This means that your website or email will no longer work until you verify your email address.
What happens when your domain name is deactivated?
If your domain name has been deactivated because you have not verified your email address, you can restore it by clicking on the verification link in the email. Once the email address has been verified, your domain name will be reactivated immediately.
Did you miss the verification email? Don't worry! We can restart the process for you so you can still complete the verification.
Exceptions and existing domains
This rule only applies to newly registered domain names. For existing domains, a verification process is only started if the specified email address no longer exists or is no longer in use.
